Millersville, Pennsylvania - Millersville women's volleyball challenged Pitt-Johnstown to the finish of set one and scored a set two victory, but the visiting Mountain Cats won sets three and four to snap Millersville's winning streak at four, 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-18-, 25-17).
Marissa Erminio's 19 kills led the way for Pitt-Johnstown (16-7, 9-2 PSAC), the PSAC Central Division co-leaders. Millersville (9-13, 5-6 PSAC). UPJ out-hit the Marauders .261-.199, but Millersville's second set performance buoyed its overall numbers. The Marauders hit .423 and tallied four of the their six aces in the set.
The opening set saw seven tied scores and five lead changes. Pitt-Johnstown held a 23-20 lead, but back-to-back kills from
Haley Butler pulled the Marauders within one. UPJ, however, received kills from Cambria Wierman and Ermino, offsetting a service error to close the set with a two-point win.
Set two saw the Marauders commit just one attack error. Millersville led 14-12, but a
Kara Wirt kill started a run of four consecutive points for the Marauders. Millersville outscored UPJ 11-3 over the remainder of the set.
Pitt-Johnstown, however, powered its way to wins in sets three and four, leading by as many as 10 points in the third and nine points in the fourth. UPJ totaled 28 kills and six errors while Millersville recorded 20 kills and 10 errors over the final to sets.
Erin Harman and
Kelsi Ceriani paced the Marauders with 11 kills apiece. Harman also led the team with three aces.
Grace Dawson tallied 39 assists for the second match in a row.
Millersville hits the road next weekend for a back-to-back against Clarion and IUP.
