GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville is set to embark on a three-game home stand and it couldn't occur at a better time for head coach
Matt Procopio. The Black & Gold are set to host West Chester (Sept. 29), Lock Haven (Oct. 7) and California (Pa.) (Oct. 10) on Pucillo Field. The Marauders would love to string a couple of wins together in hopes of reaching postseason play. All five of Millersville's losses have been by one goal and three have come against nationally-ranked opponents.
• Through its first eight games, the Millersville women's soccer team ranks 11th in the PSAC in goals against average (1.63). Marauder keeper
Samantha Wolfe has been by far the most active keeper in the PSAC facing 109 shots, while recording 62 saves.
• From the opening whistle, the Marauders hung tough with No. 4 Gannon Golden Knights. The Marauders were forced into playing long stretches of the match in their defensive third as the Golden Knights out-shot the Ville by a 25-3 margin. At the 49:19 mark, a Sammy Valloud pass slipped behind the Millersville defense and forward Michelle Genetin gathered the ball and dipped the shot underneath the cross bar from 20-yards out for the lone goal of the game.
Megan Kelley nearly provided the equalizer in the 64
th minute, but Gannon goalkeeper Shannon Differ made a sliding save.
ABOUT THE SERIES• West Chester regained supremacy in the series during the 2014 season after a 2-0 win at Rockwell Field. In the two years prior, Millersville recorded a pair of 1-0 victories over the Golden Rams.
THE LAST MEETING (WEST CHESTER 2, MILLERSVILLE 0 - OCT. 18, 2014)• Last season, it was a tight affair with West Chester holding a 12-9 advantage over the Marauders in shots. However, Millersville was able to hold a 4-3 corner kick advantage. The loss marked the only time the Black & Gold were shutout during the 2014 season. The first goal of the match came at the 71:41 mark when midfielder Nikki Lynch crossed the ball from the left side of the pitch that found the right foot of Kara Parvel who tapped it in past the Ville keeper. The insurance effort was a solo attack off the right side of the field where Parvel laid it off to Carly Yost, who blasted it into the bottom left corner of the net just inside the left post.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• West Chester enters Tuesday's matchup sporting a 6-2 overall and conference record. The Golden Rams currently sit second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings behind the undefeated Gannon Golden Knights. West Chester held strong in the defensive zone to keep the Red Raiders of Shippensburg off the board in a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Rams out-shot the Red Raiders 19-6 and 11-3 in shots on goal. Marissa Valenti scored the first goal of the game in the 62nd minute to put West Chester up by one. Then, forward Kara Parval with zero hesitation took a shot from the top of the circle that went over the goalkeepers head to put the Golden Rams up two goals to none. Junior goalkeeper Alex Srolis recorded her fifth shutout in the first eight games, making three saves the entire game.
