Millersville, Pa. - The hardwood of Pucillo Gymnasium has hosted thousands of games and millions of feet have run and jumped on it since its installation in 1969. After 46 years, the floor is being replaced.
Tear out of the existing floor began on Monday, July 13 and the expected completion date of mid-August includes installation of the new floor and paint with a fresh design featuring the recently unveiled Ville mark at center court. West Chester-based company Miller Flooring is handling the tear out and installation. Miller Flooring has worked with the United States Naval Academy, Villanova, Lehigh, York College, the University of Delaware, Lincoln University and Penn State as well as numerous area high schools. The floor, an Aacer PowerLoc System, has improved shock absorption, providing a better experience and decreased wear-and-tear for the Millersville and other PASSHE student-athletes.
In addition to the new playing surface, the walls, doors trim of Pucillo Gymnasium received fresh paint. The wrestling, men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and soccer team locker rooms also received a facelift. New lockers were installed, shower and wall tile was upgraded and ceiling tiles and light fixtures were replaced. A Durex floor coating was also included in each locker room.
The maintenance upgrade and flooring replacement is budgeted at $300,000, through deferred maintenance funding.
Pieces of the Pucillo Gymnasium floor were set aside. Plans to make those pieces available to the public are being finalized.
