Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team went on a 5-2 scoring run in the closing 12 minutes of the contest and scored three-straight goals in the final six minutes. But the Marauders ran out of steam, were unable to find the equalizing effort and were dealt a 16-15 defeat by Slippery Rock at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Millersville (5-9, 2-7 PSAC) and The Rock went into the halftime break tied at seven goals apiece. The Marauders opened the second period surging to a 9-7 lead with two quick strikes from
Kristen Butzner and
Bridget Hufnagel. The Rock answered with a goal 20 seconds later which sparked a 7-1 run in the next 15 minutes building a 14-10 lead.

The four-goal margin remained until 6:50 to play when the Black & Gold rallied back with three quick goals to cut the deficit to one, 16-15 with 3:30 to play.

During the run the Marauders received scores from Hufnagle,
Sabrina Fusco and
Renee Landis. Fusco finished the game with a hat-trick, marking the eighth occasion of the season that the freshman has scored three or more goals.
Renee Landis and
Bridget Hufnagel each added two goals and one assist.

Slippery Rock locked down the defensive fronts in the final three minutes of action and never allowed the tying goal. The SRU victory marked the third in a row, evening its overall record to 7-7 on the season and is now above .500 in the PSAC at 5-4.Â

The Rock finished the contest with advantages in total shots (44-29), draw controls (22-11), and ground balls (26-20). However, the Marauders were extremely efficient in placing their shots on net putting 23 of the 29 between the goal pipes.

The game was plagued by yellow cards with both teams combining for nine during the 60 minutes of action.
Hannah Vogel and
Abby Mack each picked up two cards a piece.

Shannon Davis took the loss in goal after recording a game-high 11 saves.

Millersville will have the opportunity to knock off the nationally-ranked Seton Hill Griffins. Seton Hill (9-4, 6-3 PSAC) enters the match ranked 15th in the in the latest IWLCA Division II Poll. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
