Women’s Lacrosse Falls to IUP on the Road

Indiana, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team didn't find its goal-scoring spark until too late Friday's game at Indiana (Pa.). The Marauders dropped their first PSAC road contest of the 2015 season, 14-12.

Millersville (3-3, 1-1 PSAC) trailed 14-7 with under eight minutes left on the scoreboard. The Black & Gold got hot and scored five-straight goals to pull within two scores with under a minute to play. The Marauders weren't able to find any late goal heroics as the Crimson Hawks ran the time out on the clock and thwarted the late rally by the away team.

The Marauders got off to a slow start offensively in the first period trailing IUP 5-0 after conceding five consecutive goals during the first 13 minutes of action. Mia Hall was able to regroup her squad and Millersville went on a five-goal spurt of its own to tie the score at five goals apiece at the half.

Madison Long was the first Marauder to get on the board as she schooled IUP goalkeeper Angela Lontoc at the 16:10 mark. The equalizing effort to close out the half came with 38 seconds remaining in the period via a beautiful feed from Bridget Hufnagel that was finished off by Taylor Davis.

Davis had a career-best effort for the Marauders recording three goals on five shots and was an integral playmaker during Millersville's late rally in the second half. The Kennard-Dale product scored the Black & Gold's final tally of the match. Renee Landis in the midst of enjoying a break through campaign for the Marauders scored a pair of goals and assisted on another two scores. Landis now leads the team with 30 points and is trailed by Bridget Hufnagel who has recorded 27 points, including a pair of goals and assists against the Crimson Hawks.

Millersville was plagued by turnovers as it had 18 giveaways compared to Indiana's 14 in Friday's contest. However, the Marauders picked up four more ground balls holding a 16-12 advantage over the home team. Goalkeeper Shannon Davis was stout between the pipes saving 14 of the 28 shots in which she faced.

The Marauders return to PSAC action tomorrow March 28, with a match against Edinboro. Millersville travels to the Fighting Scots home turf with the first draw control set for 2 p.m.
