York, Pa. – The Millersville women's swimming team finished the 2015 PSAC Championship in 10th place overall for the third-straight season and accumulated 131 points which represented the second most in program history.
Junior Grace Magerr could arguably go down as the top distance swimmer in Millersville history and she finished up her individual portion of the championships by turning in another top-10 finish Sunday evening. Magerr who owns the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle came seven seconds short of her previous best mark as she touched the final wall in 17:37.85 and finished in ninth place.
Millersville had three different swimmers race in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Rachel Malampy led the group by placing 30th with a time of 54.65. Junior Brigid Kavanaugh touched the wall in 55.01 which was good for 36th. Marina Barrineau rounded out the group of Marauders finishing the freestyle 52nd in 56.48.
The same trios of swimmers teamed up with Grace Magerr as they competed in the 400-yard freestyle relays. The quartet swam their fastest time of the year and finished 11th in 3:41.26. The mark will go down as the fifth fastest time in Millersville history.
Emily Fusco competed in the 200-yard backstroke and was able to win the consolation final with a recorded time of 2:07.21. The freshman will now have her name entrenched in the Millersville record books as her time was the fastest ever by a Marauder swimmer.
Not only was Millersville's 131 points the second most in program history, but it also marked the fourth straight year the Marauders achieved a total of 90 or more team points under the leadership of Kyle Almoney.
The Millersville swimmers will now wait to hear back from the NCAA to see if their duo of NCAA-B cut times were good enough to qualify them for the NCAA Championships in March.
