Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team will feature many new faces for the 2015 season as they look to turn heads in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Coach Mia Hall's squad was picked to finish 12th according to the 2015 PSAC preseason poll.
The Black and Gold return five of their top 10 scorers, including senior Hannah Vogel who netted 44 goals a season ago. Vogel and classmate Taylor Frombaugh will be relied upon as vocal leaders from their defensive alignment, as the Marauders will feature a new goalie between the pipes. Also returning for the Marauders will be Renee Landis who had an immediate impact during her freshman campaign tying for the team lead with 13 assists and finishing third in goals (20) and points (33).
Offensively, Landis and Vogel will look to get accustomed with key transfers Bridget Hufnagel, Madison Long, Brianna Logana, and Jillian Groff. Hufnagel attended Temple University playing 17 games over two seasons and was high school teammates with Long and Groff. Logana started in over 30 games for Harford Community College and demonstrated keen savviness from her defensive position earning All-JUCO honors after her sophomore campaign.
2014 PSAC champions Lock Haven received 12 first-place votes and earned the top spot in the preseason poll. PSAC Runner-up Mercyhurst was slotted to finish second, and IUP was the only other team to capture first-place votes as a result they were chosen to finish third. West Chester, Seton Hill, and Bloomsburg all made the 2014 PSAC Tournament and rounded out the top-six respectively.
Head Coach Mia Hall, a highly touted offensive mind will look to continue to instill her attacking mindset within the Marauder program. Prior to Hall's arrival, the Marauders scored more than 182 goals in a season only one time in eight years. In each of Hall's first three seasons at the helm Millersville has averaged 204 goals per year, including 194 goals last season.
Millersville opens the 2015 campaign Wednesday, March 4 when it hosts Holy Family at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The home opener is set to begin at 4 p.m.
