Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's basketball team shook off an early 3-point barrage from Seton Hill, rallying from an 11-point first quarter deficit to win 67-58 in Pucillo Gymnasium Friday evening in PSAC Crossover action.
Millersville (4-3, 2-3 PSAC) won for the third time in as many games and did so with five players hitting for double figures and shooting a season-high 48.1 percent from the field. The shooting performance was especially impressive as it came against a Seton Hill (5-3, 2-2 PSAC) club that entered the game ranked No. 1 in the PSAC in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense and 3-point field goal percentage defense.
Yasmin Cooper led the Marauders in points (14) and rebounds (7).
Seton Hill started quickly, knocking down five threes in six first quarter possessions to take an 18-7 advantage. But Millersville ripped off an 11-0 run that extended into the start of the second quarter. Cooper capped the run with back-to-back hoops. The teams traded the lead four more times during the second quarter but
Celeste Robinson scored on back-to-back possessions in the final minute of the half to put Millersville up 35-31 at the break.Millersville never again relinquished the lead.
Seton Hill trailed 59-56 with 5:43 left in the game, but neither team scored for more than three minutes.
Tyisha White ended the drought with 2:09 remaining. Millersville pulled away at the charity stripe, sinking 5-of-7 in the final 1:30.
While Seton Hill made six of its first seven threes, it made just 2-of-11 the rest of the way, including 1-of-5 in the second half. In addition to Cooper's 14, Millersville received 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals from Robinson.
Shelby Reimer scored 12 points for her sixth consecutive game in double figures.
Alex Stam hit 4-of-7 from three for a season-high 12 points. Millersville took full advantage of 19 Seton Hill miscues, scoring 27 points off turnovers.
Millersville faces defending national champion and No. 12 California Saturday at home. Game time is 1 p.m.
