West Chester, Pa. - Millersville's losing streak extended to four as the Marauders were downed by West Chester in three sets Friday night (25-19, 25-15, 25-13).
Millersville struggled at the net once again, hitting just .029.
Erin Harman led the Marauders with six kills while
Katie Witwer recorded five.
Brooklyn Smith had 17 digs and
Grace Dawson mustered just 14 assists, a season low for the freshman.
The Marauders looked to establish control early in the first set as they jumped out to a 6-3 lead as the Rams committed five errors and
Katie Witwer recorded a kill. The Golden Rams would bounce back though as they took five straight points and held a two point lead. Millersville would hang tough but would never be able to regain the lead. Witwer sent home another kill before Molly Grammer and Samantha Agostini recorded back to back kills. Millersville continued to struggle as West Chester extended their lead to five when Marina Sharkey recorded a kill for the Golden Rams (14-9). Millersville would make a charge
Grace Dawson recorded a kill and
Erin Harman had a service ace to cut the deficit to just two. After West Chester extended their lead to five again they committed a pair of errors to give Millersville life. The Marauders could not capitalize however as Allie Duffy sent home a kill and the set ended on a Millersville error to give the Golden Rams the early lead.
In the second set, West Chester took the early as it was Millersville's turn to commit a trio of errors and give the Golden Rams a 5-2 lead. Millersville would cut the lead to one when
Erin Harman sent home a pair of kills to make it 7-6 in favor of West Chester. The Golden Rams would respond and took five of the next seven points to hold a four point lead.
Rhianna Kalescky sent home a kill to stop the run, but West Chester did not flinch taking five of the next six points and extending their lead to 17-10. The Golden Rams stayed in command the rest of the set, eventually taking the set when Millersville committed four more errors down the stretch to give West Chester a 25-15 set victory.
West Chester kept their momentum going into the third set as they blitzed the Marauders from the start to the tune of 12-3 as Molly Grammer and Victoria Cruciani each sent home two early kills. Harman stopped the bleeding with a kill of her own and despite a Kalescky kill, but the Golden Rams continued to extend their lead to 13 when Allie Duffy recorded another pair of kills for West Chester. The closest Millersville would get was ten points when the Golden Rams committed two errors and Kelsi Ceriana recorded a kill to make the score 22-12 in favor of West Chester. The Golden Rams would finish the set and the match when Cruciani and Grammer recorded two more kills to give West Chester a 25-13 victory.
Millersville falls below .500 with a record of 14-15 (5-14 PSAC) but return to action tomorrow as they travel to Cheyney to take on the Wolves at 1 p.m.
