Erie, Pa. - McKenna Shives hit a 3-pointer for the first bucket of the game and No. 18 Gannon never trailed in Saturday's 68-58 win over visiting Millersville.
Gannon (4-0, 2-0 PSAC) scored the first five points of the game and led by as many as 11 in the first quarter. As close as Millersville got after 3-0 was at 20-16 on a
Celeste Robinson layup with 8:35 left in the second. Gannon, however, ripped off a 15-5 run by shooting 6-for-9 over the next six minutes and eventually led by 13 at the break.
The Marauders held Gannon to 9-for-24 shooting and forced nine turnovers in the second half but the offense did not have enough firepower, shooting 14-of-36 in the third and fourth quarters and just 2-of-10 from three. Millersville finished the game shooting 36.9 percent.
Robinson led Millersville with 18 points on an efficient 8-of-11 from the field. She also recorded four steals and three assists.
Shelby Reimer added 14 points, making 3-of-12 from three. The rest of the team shot 1-of-7 from three for a season-low 21.1 percent.
Gannon was supported by four players in double figures and shot 46 percent from the field. Millersville also allowed 48.1 percent shooting against Mansfield, marking the first time since November of 2013 that the team has allowed 45 percent shooting in back-to-back games--a span of 52 games.
Millersville stays in Western Pennsylvania and plays at Clarion Sunday afternoon.
