Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville opened the season with a heartbreaking 66-65 loss to Claflin, but will look to rebound with three more games on the slate this week. With possession in the final seconds of the game, Patrell Rogers of Claflin drove from the top of the key and earned a trip to the free throw line where he sunk his second attempt to give the Panthers the 66-65 victory over the Millersville. The Marauders received 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals from
Shawn Williams, but Millersville was unable to overcome a cold shooting night. The Ville finished with a 30.5 field goal percentage.
 • Senior
Demerik Weglinski made his presence felt within the paint earning his first career double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.
Cornell Yarde II made a strong debut for the Ville playing in all 40 minutes while scoring 13 points.
 • Millersville has won two-straight against the Mountaineers after splitting the previous four meetings with each of those four games being decided by no more than seven points. Since 2007-08, 10 of the meetings have been decided by fewer than 10 points. From 2008-09 to 2011-12, Mansfield won eight in a row. Millersville has won each of the last three games played in Pucillo Gymnasium and stole a victory at Mansfield's home court last February.
 •
Shawn Williams doesn't take many 3-pointers, averaging 2.42 attempts per game. But he has been efficient, hitting 38.7 percent, which is best on the team. In the first game of the season, Williams sunk three of his four attempts.
 • Mansfield enters the season under the direction of interim head coach Pat Zipfel. The 15-year NBA veteran faces a challenging early season schedule with perhaps the youngest Mountaineer team in a decade. Thomas Moore, the only senior on the team, returns at point guard where he has already been selected as a Preseason All-PSAC East selection by the conference head coaches after averaging 14.7 points and ranking third in the conference in assists last season. One of the premier players in the conference, Moore scored in double-figures in 14 of 19 games last season with two double-doubles over the last three games of the year.
THE LAST MEETING (MILLERSVILLE 60, MANSFIELD 56) - FEB. 4, 2015)• Four players in double figures and a strong defensive effort on Mansfield star Joe Bell led the Millersville men's basketball team to a 60-56--its first at Mansfield since 2008. The Marauders' interior players
Anthony Moe and
Eddie Callender overcame foul trouble to produce efficient offensive performances. Moe totaled 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed nine boards. Callender scored 10 on 3-of-5 shooting and added six rebounds. But most importantly, the duo stymied Bell, who entered the game fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 17.7 points per game. The game, however, wasn't decided until the final seconds. Millersville led by nine (48-39) following
Sam Light's jumper with 9:11 to play. That lead was quickly erased with a 7-1 run from the Mountaineers.
Tavon Parker briefly stemmed the tied with a basket, but Thomas Moore retaliated with five consecutive points, giving Mansfield a 53-51 advantage with three minutes left. With only 58 seconds remaining, Charles Pemberton put his Mansfield club up 56-55, but Parker found Moe at the other end for a go-ahead basket 16 seconds later.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Mansfield is coming off of back-to-back losses in the Charles and Lavoo Crutchfield Classic. The Mountaineers opened the tournament facing the No. 3 ranked West Liberty Hilltoppers and fell 114-65. Matt Tamansosky recorded his first-ever collegiate double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Lewis Jr. and Andreas Katopodis set career-high scoring marks with 15 points and nine points, respectively. The Mountaineers finished the tournament with a loss to Notre Dame College and were led by Da'Quan Jones who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. The Mountaineers had four players score in double figures but a larger and more experienced Notre Dame (OH) wore down the Mountaineers in the second half picking up a 107-78 win.
