Marauders Sweep Wolves in Straight Sets

Millersville, Pa. – The Marauders were victorious Friday night sweeping the Cheyney Wolves in three sets (25-21, 25-9, 25, 10).

Taylor Smith, Brooklyn Smith and Alexis Hamm all had individual season-highs in service aces while Rhianna Kalescky recorded eight kills, equaling her season high which she set against Edinboro. Taylor Smith led the way with seven services aces while Brooklyn Smith and Hamm each had six and added 12 and four digs respectively. The team totaled 20 service aces, shattering their previous season high of 14, which came against Chesnut Hill earlier this year. The Marauders were extremely efficient in their attacks, hitting at a percentage of .314, which ties for the highest attack percentage in a single game this season. Erin Harman had eight kills and added one assist in the match, and Grace Dawson led the way with 26 assists.

Millersville established dominance early by scoring the first 12 points of the match. Taylor Smith served for 11 of the 12 points including a stretch where she had three service aces in a row. With the Marauders in command, Kalescky, who led all players with a set-high six kills, recorded three of the last five Millersville points in that fashion.

The second set was more competitive to start as Cheyney kept the deficit close early. With the score 8-5 in favor of the Marauders, Harman sent home one of her set-high four kills to give Millersville the serve.  Once again, Taylor Smith stepped up and the Marauders earned four consecutive points including two aces by Smith.  Later in the set, with the score 17-9, Harman sent home another kill and Brooklyn Smith took Millersville home, serving for the last seven points including back-to-back kills by Kalescky to close out the set.

In the third and final game, the Smiths continued to dominate as Taylor and Brooklyn both served and extended the Millersville lead early. Kelsi Ceriana recorded one of her match-high three kills to give Millersville a 19-9 lead. Alexis Hamm then served for five straight Marauder points earning four of them by way of a service ace.

Millersville hosts West Chester Saturday at 1 p.m.
