Shippensburg, Pa. - Shippensburg returned three punts, a fumble and an interception for touchdown to top Millersville 63-7 Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders' (7-2, 5-1 PSAC East) special teams and defense scored more points than their offense. Shippensburg led 49-0 at the half despite possessing the ball for just six minutes and producing just 168 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes. The scoring started with a Steven Cain fumble recovery in the end zone off of a botched snap on a punt attempt. With 1:41 left in the first, Andrew Smith returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown. A pick six was followed by a Sheldon Mayer 66-yard punt return for a score. The three touchdowns came in a little more than six minutes of game time.
Smith continued his big-play performance with an 87-yard touchdown run in the second, and Mayer capped the half with his second punt return for a touchdown. This one was a 91-yarder. Millersville held the ball for 24 of the 30 minutes but mustered -30 yards rush in the half because of nine sacks allowed.
Millersville's offense rushed for one total yard in the second half and finished with 111 yards of offense. 47 of those yards came on one drive in the third.
J.J. Paige compleed 4-of-4 passes and capped the drive with a 28-yard pass to
Kevin Wiggins, who hauled in his fifth touchdown reception in the last two games.
Wiggins totaled 63 yards on five grabs, pushing his two-week total to 17 catches and 213 yards.
Tyler Zilen also made three catches for 25 yards.
Shippensburg accumulated 232 punt return yards and 84 kick return yards on two returns.
Millersville's final two games of the regular season are at home. It hosts Cheyney on Nov. 7.
