Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team bounced back Tuesday, sweeping visiting Elizabethtown College in three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-23).
Emily Kaledas and
Erin Harman both had 10 kills for Millersville while
Taylor Smith recorded four service aces and seven digs in the victory.
Brooklyn Smith tallied 14 digs and
Grace Dawson set up the Marauders 31 times.
In the first set, Millersville established control early as
Rhianna Kalescky sent home the first point of the night via kill, and
Taylor Smith recorded back-to-back service aces. When the Blue Jays responded with three points of their own, Kaledas recorded one of her three kills in set, starting a four point run for the Marauders. After a Millersville timeout and an Elizabethtown error,
Alexis Hamm served for three points and pushed the lead to as many as eight at 22-14. The Blue Jays would climb back into the set taking six of the next eight points with four coming by way of the kill. Millersville eventually closed the first set when Elizabethtown faltered and committed an attack error.
The second set began much like the first as Millersville led early and steadily pulled away from Elizabethtown. Harman, Kaledas and Kalescky all recorded kills to help give Millersville another eight point advantage. Once again, the Blue Jays battlef back led by Megan McNaul's three consecutive kills cutting the deficit to four. The two teams continued to trade points as nine of the last 13 points of the set were recorded by way of the kill. With the score 24-18 in favor of the Marauders, Elizabethtown committed an error, giving Millersville a two sets to none advantage.
Elizabethtown jumped to a 12-10 lead in the third set, but Millersville tied the score at 14 before reeling off five consecutive points to take control of the set. The Blue Jays, however, won five of the next six points and cut the deficit to one. When Millersville committed an error and Elizabethtown recorded a kill to take a 22-21 lead, the Marauders took a timeout. Harman responded out of the break with a kill followed by an
Erika Green service ace and Kaledas kill. On the ropes, Elizabethtown's Juliana Mowen recorded a kill to keep the Blue Jays alive, but Kaledas finished the match with her fifth kill of the set.
Millersville now improves to 12-11 on the season and hosts Kutztown at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
