Millersville Swept in Saturday's Doubleheader

Johnstown, Pa - In the second day of Millersville's PSAC Crossover, the Marauders first fell to California (Pa.) 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20) before falling to Seton Hill in four sets to end the day (25-15, 24-26, 25-19, 25-9).

The Marauders were led at the net by Kelsi Ceriana who totaled 18 kills and added 5 blocks.  Brooklyn Smith tallied 58 digs and five assists while Grace Dawson had 63 assists and 20 digs in Saturday's action.

California (Pa.) 3, Millersville 1
Millersville came out strong taking the lead at 4-3 when Kelsi Ceriana sent home a kill to start the first set. California stayed with the Marauders, though, tying the score at 9-9 before Millersville began to pull away by scoring seven-straight points in a stretch that included kills by Emily Kaledes, Rhianna Kalescky and Erin Harman. Millersville extended its lead to 16-9 on back-to-back aces from Dawson.  The Vulcans battled back late, cutting the deficit to four (21-17) before Emily Kaledas capped off the set with a kill.

Looking to take back the momentum in the second set, the Vulcans recorded the first seven points. The Marauders cut the deficit to two as Taylor Smith scored a service ace and Harman and Witwer recorded kills (10-8). California re-established control scoring the next six points in a span that included two errors by the Marauders. Millersville would never come close to evening the score again as the Vulcans Ashley Leto earned three of the last four points via the kill to give California the set 25-15.

The Vulcans jumped out to 6-0 lead in the third set before committing an error to get Millersville on the board. California remained in control though as Millersville never came within six points again. In the fourth and decisive set, Harman brought the Marauders within two (10-8) when she recorded a kill. The Vulcans responded by scoring six in a row and forcing a Millersville timeout. The Marauders tried to mount a comeback as Brooklyn and Taylor Smith recorded service aces eventually making the score 23-19 in favor of the Vulcans. This time, it was California's Mary Lavery who recorded a kill before the Marauders faltered on the attack, giving the last point to the Vulcans.

Seton Hill 3, Millersville 1
The first set began with the two sides trading points before Seton Hill began to establish some distance from Millersville. Witwer sent home a kill to make the score 9-6 in favor of the Griffins but Seton Hill responded by scoring four in a row aided by a pair of Marauder errors. Seton Hill continued to pull away when Lauren Teed served for three-straight service aces extending the Griffins lead to 17-6. Trailing by 10, Millersville tried to mount a comeback when Kalescky and Witwer recorded back-to-back kills, but the effort was futile as errors and a Rachel Satira kill gave the Griffins the set, 25-15.

The Marauders took an early 4-1 lead in the second set before the Griffins responded with four consecutive points of their own. After trading points, the score was knotted at 12 when errors continued to plague Millersville. The Marauders committed three, giving Seton Hill four of the next five points. After Millersville took a timeout, Harman recorded a kill before the Marauders committed another pair of errors. Millersville continued to hang tough though as Ceriana sent home a kill and cut the deficit to just one (18-17).  Seton Hill held a four point advantage (24-20) when Millersville charged back, trying the score at 24 and the Griffins took a timeout. Coming out of the break, Harman sent home a kill and the Griffins committed an error to give the Marauders a well-earned 26-24 set victory.

The two teams remained even to start the third set as the teams were knotted at 8-8 before the Griffins sent home a pair of kills to take the lead. After Seton Hill committed an error, the Marauders responded with two of their own and took a timeout. Brooklyn Smith followed up a Kaledas kill to make the score 16-14 in favor of the Griffins. Seton Hill stopped the Marauder charge, winning the next four points in a span that included two Millersville errors. Trailing 22-18, Millersville took a timeout but the Griffins maintained control taking three of the last four points and winning the set, 25-19.

Seton Hill recorded the first six points of the fourth set before the Marauders took two of the next three points. Seton Hill responded with four points in a row on a pair of kills and Millersville errors. The Griffins extended their lead to nine and continued to roll, recording three straight points out of a Marauder timeout and finished off the Marauders on a pair of Cassie Hausfeld kills.
