East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Millersville women's swimming team used the East Stroudsburg Invitational as a final tune up before competing in the PSAC Championships. Sophomore Meghan Hickey swam a PSAC qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, as no team scores were kept on Saturday at Koehler Field House.
Hickey initially hit a PSAC qualifying effort in the fourth event of the invitational, clocking a 1:02.88 in the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore touched the wall seven-hundredths of a second faster than Kandis Venn of East Stroudsburg in an exciting finish, as her time also represented a season best effort in the backstroke.
In the 200-yard IM, Hickey was able to shave nearly a second off her team best 200-yard IM time. The West Chester, Pa., native finished with a time of 2:18.42 and scored a third place finish for the Marauders.
Freshman Teagan Hanlon had life time bests in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Hanlon who has made consistent improvements during her freshman campaign shaved a second off her season best time in the 200-yard free as she finished the event at 2:09.81. Teammate Sarah McGregor finished just ahead of Hanlon with a recorded time of 2:07.83, good for ninth place.
Hanlon finished her afternoon competing in the 500-yard freestyle where she touched the wall sixth with a time of 5:50.17.
The Marauders will use the next two weeks to train in preparation for the PSAC Championships in York, Pa. Coach Kyle Almoney's squad will feature several different swimmers competing in the three day event that is set to begin Feb. 18.
