Millersville, Pa. - Millersville and West Chester were deadlocked with just over four minutes to play, but some clutch West Chester shooting down the stretch helped the visitors pull away, 79-72.
The PSAC East rivalry game was marred by 57 fouls called and 68 free throws attempted. Five Marauders finished with four fouls and
Tavon Parker, who led the team in scoring, exited early with five.
West Chester shot a blistering 48.9 percent from the field and drilled three key 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game. Millersville (10-11, 6-9 PSAC) took a 60-57 lead with 6:58 left on four consecutive
Anthony Moe free throws. Ben Mingledough and Avery Brown triples on back-to-back possessions to retake the lead for West Chester.
Millersville retied it twice more, but
Sam Light's two free throws that made the score 65-65 with 4:24 left would be as close as the Marauders would get. Mingledough hit a couple free throws and then Parrish Grant drilled another three to boost the lead five. Millersville had no answer on either end the rest of the way. West Chester hit six of its final eight shots from the field and all seven free throws.
Parker was joined by
Sam Light (12) in double figures. Light totaled 12 points, eight of which came from the free throw line. Grant led West Chester with 22 points. Mingledough scored 19 on 6-of-8 shooting. He also hit all six of his foul shots.
Millersville hosts PSAC East-leading East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 3 p.m.
