Millersville, Pa. - The 2004-05 Millersville women's basketball team that went 21-9 overall, won the PSAC East, took home the PSAC Championship, and made an NCAA Tournament appearance is set to be recognized on Saturday, Feb. 21 prior to the Marauders' game against Bloomsburg.
In head coach Mary Fleig's 15th season at the helm, Millersville defeated No. 10 California (Pa.) in the conference finals before falling to No. 5 Anderson (S.C.) in the NCAA Tournament. The Marauders held their opponents to below 60 points per game on the season (59.4), owned a 12-2 mark inside Pucillo Gymnasium and had won 15 straight before the loss to Anderson. That mark still stands as the longest winning streak in program history.
The squad was led by Danielle Marshall's 14.4 points per game as well as Destinne Parker-Stewart and Kristy Garner who each averaged double figures with 11.7 and 11.1 points per contest, respectively. At the conclusion of the season, Fleig was named PSAC East Coach of the Year for a fifth time, Garner and Marshall were named to the All-PSAC East First Team and Parker-Stewart received an All-PSAC East Second Team nod.
Marshall and Parker-Stewart were two of the best scorers in the PSAC and Garner handled the dirty work as she paced the team in both rebounds and blocks. As a team, Millersville had six players who averaged at least five points per game.
Tip against the Huskies is set for 1 p.m. inside Pucillo and the Alumni Game will be played that morning beginning at 10 a.m.
