Bloomsburg Stops Marauders' Streak
1/21/2015 9:29:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Bloomsburg, Pa. - Millersville entered Wednesday's PSAC East game at Bloomsburg on a four-game winning streak, but that streak came to a shrieking halt in a 84-66 loss in Nelson Field House.
Against the PSAC's 17th-ranked scoring defense, the Marauders (10-10, 6-8 PSAC) shot just 27.8 percent from the field and made 8-of-27 (29.6 percent) of their 3-pointers.The offensive effort stood in stark contrast to the 99-point performance the Marauders put forth just two nights prior against Wilmington. Eddie Callender led the team with 17 points, and Shawn Williams added 16 including 4-of-4 from 3-point land.
But the team noticeably missed the play of Kelvin Parker, who was ruled academically ineligible for the remainder of the season prior to the contest. Parker was the team's leader in scoring at 16.5 per game and also led the PSAC in steals.
Without Parker, freshman Sam Light and Tavon Parker shouldered more of the offensive load but both struggled shooting. Tavon hit 3-of-13 shots including 2-of-9 from three. Light, who dropped a career-high 20 points on Monday night, mustered nine points on 2-of-12 shooting.
Millersville trailed the Huskies 36-32 with 2:23 left in the first half, but Bloomsburg closed the period with an 8-2 run. Millersville simply couldn't find the offense necessary to mount a charge. Bloomsburg slowly pulled away and led by as many as 20. Four Huskies scored in double figures. Christian Mortellite led the way with 19.
The Marauders are off the coming weekend and return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28 against West Chester.
