Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• Coming off of an overtime win against Cheyney, Millersville enters the key portion of its schedule with 11 games against PSAC East foes remaining. The Marauders may be 4-7, but they are just one game out of third place in the wide-open division. The Marauders lost two early PSAC East games against West Chester and East Stroudsburg in November, but now they are as close to full strength as they have been all season with the additions of
Tavon Parker and interior depth with Demerick Weglinski and
Anthony Moe. The 6-10 Moe made his debut against Cheyney and was productive in seven minutes, grabbing seven rebounds and scoring four points. The Marauders are 3-2 since the addition of Tavon, and the two losses came by a total of 10 points.
• Tavon's addition to the roster seems to have helped his brother, Kelvin. In his first nine games, Kelvin averaged 13.7 points per game on 36.4 percent shooting from the field, 31.0 percent from three with 13 assists to 22 turnovers. But in the five games with Tavon, Parker has averaged 21 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting from the field, 42.1 percent from three and 13 assists to 12 turnovers. Kelvin is hitting his stride at the right time for Millersville and was named PSAC East Player of the Week after averaging 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals per game.
• Kelvin matched up with Lock Haven three times last season and had some struggles. He shot just 13-of-41 from the field and 4-of-23 from three. He missed all of his 14 3-point attempts in the first two games. Lock Haven's Wali Hepburn, however, thrived against the Marauders. He scored 20-plus points in all three games, averaging 22.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.
• Defense and rebounding are keys to Millersville's success. The Marauders are 5-0 when holding opponents under 70 points and 6-5 when holding teams to fewer than 80 points. Millersville is 5-0 when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent and 7-5 when holding opponents under 50 percent. On the glass, the Marauders are 4-0 when out-rebounding teams and 3-0 when grabbing 40-plus rebounds. In Millersville's seven wins, it is holding teams to 38 percent shooting from the field, 27.3 percent from three and is plus-2.0 in rebounding. In losses, opponents are shooting 48.9 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from three and is minus-13.0 in rebounding.
• Millersville holds a commanding 56-18 lead in the all-time series with Lock Haven and won 12 in a row from 2001-02 until last season when Lock Haven won both regular season games. Three of the last four games have been decided by an average of 6.3 points per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Lock Haven experienced a resurgence in 2013-14, riding PSAC East Player of the Year Wali Hepburn to a 17-10 record--the programs best season since 1990. Millersville ended Lock Haven's season in the PSAC Tournament, rallying from 19 points down to win on the road, 81-75. Lock Haven won regular season match-ups. Hepburn is back in player of the year form, averaging a PSAC-best 20.3 points per game. Hepburn ranks fifth in assist average and ninth in steals.
