Newark, Del. -Â Millersville volleyball's season opening win streak came to a halt on Friday as the Marauders lost to Bentley in three sets to began play in the Wildcat Regional Invitational.The Falcons (1-4) earned their first win of the season over Millersville (4-1) with set scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-16. Prior to Bentley, the Marauders had only dropped one set in the first four matches (12-1) while the Falcons hadn't won a set until Friday (0-12).
Both teams hit well in the first set as Bentley sent home 17 kills to just four errors on 34 total attacks for a blistering hitting percentage of .382. However, Millersville couldn't quite stack up and answered that with a .306 clip to drop the first set by two points.
The Falcons kept it rolling in the second set with an attack percentage of .333 to only .080 by the Marauders. Bentley took that set by three points and asserted itself even more in the third set. Millersville hit an even .000 in the third set and the Falcons took the set by nine points and the match in straight sets.Â
Katie Lesinski led the attack for the Marauders with nine kills and
Victoria Biggins aided the offense with 23 assists. Defensively,
Brooklyn Smith dug out 12 balls while
Kayla Wallace registered one solo block and two block assists.Â
Millersville's play in Newark will continue on Saturday with matches against Holy Family (10 a.m.) and Merrimack (2 p.m.).
