No. 8 IUP Pulls Away From Marauders in Second Half

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team was right on the heels of nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.) through the first 30-minutes of action, but the Crimson Hawks pulled away in the second half of Friday's PSAC contest and defeated the Marauders, 21-7.

Millersville (4-3, 1-2 PSAC) had its lowest scoring output all season and fired only 15 shots the entire match, six fewer than its previous season low. Senior Brooke Fisher was the lone Marauder to score more than one goal. The attacker finished with a hat trick and is now tied for third in the conference with 29 scores this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin Crouthamel faced pressure all game from the Crimson Hawks and made a career-high 16 saves in the loss.

Indiana (Pa.) (5-2, 4-0 PSAC) maintains its undefeated mark in conference play, while never trailing throughout the match. The Crimson Hawks were powered by a pair of players who each scored five goals. Brittney Palardy and Kim Hooven each netted five scores apiece and paced 10 total players who scored in the match for the visitors.

The Marauders got off to a sluggish start in each half, but it was the second period lull that hurt the home team the most. The Black and Gold trailed by four goals (8-4) at halftime to the nations eighth ranked team, and had outscored the visitors 3-2 over the final five minutes of the first half.

The Crimson Hawks stiffled the Black and Gold attack in the first 10-minutes of the final frame, and doubled its lead in the process, taking a 12-4 advantage. Over the next eight minutes Millersville stayed with IUP, as each team netted two scores during that span. However, over the next 10 minutes Indiana (Pa.) won six of seven draw controls and blitzed the Marauders by scoring six straight times.

Millersville was unable to create an rhythm in the offensive zone. The Marauders turned the ball over a season-high 28 times and were 60 percent on clear opportunities (12-of-20).

The home loss for the Marauders snaps a seven game winning streak on Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium, dating back to last season. Millersville is 9-3 at home over the past two years, two of its three losses during that span have been to the Crimson Hawks.

The Black and Gold have a quick chance to redeem themselves as they play host to Edinboro tomorrow. Millersville will honor its six seniors prior to the start of the game. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
