Women's Tennis Drops Two

Results vs. Wisc.-Eau Claire | Results vs. Clarion

Hilton Head, S.C. - After being swept by Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wednesday morning, the Millersville women's tennis team played a closely contested match with Clarion but fell, 5-4. 

Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored its 10th victory of the season by defeating Millersville, 9-0. Clarion improved to 3-6 while Millersville dropped to 2-6 with the pair of losses. 

Against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Marauders were swept in doubles matches, and only Stefanie Fisher at No. 4 singles pushed her match to a third set. Colleen McCullough topped Fisher 6-2 in the first set, but Fisher bounced back with a 6-2 win of her own in the second. McCullough outlasted Fisher in the third by a 10-5 score.

Millersville very nearly bounced back with a win in the evening but came up just points short in several matches. The Marauders and Golden Eagles split the singles matches with Clarion winnng flights one through three while Millersville won the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches. 

The difference came down to Clarion's two wins in three doubles matches, and the two Clarion won needed an extra game to decide. At No. 1 doubles, Elizabeth wagner and Tori Davis were just edged by a 9-7 score. Alexandra Helle rand Stefanie Fisher were clipped 9-8 at No. 2 doubles. Nicole Daacke and Kaylora Thompson registered Millersville's first point with an 8-0 sweep in the No. 3 slot. 

Millersville's depth showed in singles as Fisher easily won, 6-0, 6-2. Daacke earned a 6-2, 6-0 win, and Thompson closed out a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 slot. 

Wagner started her match at No. 1 singles with a 6-1 first-set win. But Laren Zezenski bounced back with 6-4, 10-3 wins in the second and third sets to seal the 5-4 win for Clarion. 

Millersville plays two more matches on Thursday against Georgetown College and Slippery Rock.
