GAME NOTES
·Â
It all comes down to this. Both at 8-6, Millersville and Lock Haven are deadlocked in the PSAC East standings. With Lock Haven winning the first meeting, Millersville must win Saturday's game to have a chance at the No. 4 seed and a first round home game in the PSAC Tournament. It likely isn't the last time the two teams will meet. If the teams end up as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, they will meet against in the first round of the tournament. Â Saturday's game features to the best scorers in the PSAC. Lock Haven's Wali Hepburn currently leads the league and while Millersville's Kelvin Parker does not qualify for the rankings because he has played in only 11 games, his 18.9 points per game average would rank fifth. Parker's offense has proven ultra-important to Millersville's success. The team is 4-1 when he scores at least 20 points and that lone loss came in his first game with the team.Â
· Millersville is 42-6 against Lock Haven since 1952 and that was the last time that Lock Haven won at Millersville. Since Pucillo Gymnasium opened in 1970, Lock Haven is 0-15 inside the building.
Fred Thompson is 13-2 all-time against Lock Haven with one of the losses coming earlier this season.Â
· Wednesday's win over Cheyney put Millersville above .500 for the first time this season. After starting 2-6, Millersville has won 10 of 15 games since Dec. 21. Millersville is also 7-3 in its last 10 games. The Marauders are trying to win four consecutive games for the first time this season and for the first time since December of last season. The Marauders are an impressive 10-1 at home this season and 23-4 at home since the start of 2012-13. The Marauders average 79.5 points per game at home and shoot 38.7 percent from three. The team averages just 72.8 points per game and shoot 32.3 percent from three on the road.Â
· Carl Wallace is coming into his own as a do-it-all threat for the Marauders. He has scored 46 points in the last two games. He averaged just 5.3 points per game in his first six games as a Marauder and is averaging 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his last eight games. He has led the team in assists five times and has also stepped up his rebounding, leading the team on the glass in five of the last six games.Â
· Millersville relies on the 3-pointer for much of its offense. It has already set a school record for threes made in a season and averages over 10 makes per game, which is tops in the conference and 11th in Division II. Lock Haven, however, held Millersville to a season-low four 3-pointers in the first meeting between the teams. Lock Haven has done that to teams all year, rankng fifth in the PSAC in 3-point field goal defense (.305).Â
ABOUT LOCK HAVEN
· Lock Haven is having a remarkable season under the direction of third-year coach Mike Nestor. The Bald Eagles were 0-25 two seasons ago but now with 15 wins, it marks the most wins in a season since 2000. Lock Haven knows how to win close games. The team has not played a game decided by more than eight points since December. Wali Hepburn is the top scorer in the PSAC and one of the best in Division II, averaging over 22 points per game. The junior is also the team's top distributor, averaging over four assists per game. He leads the league's third highest scoring offense at 76.6 points per game.Â
