Wallace's Do-It-All Effort Helps Marauders Squeak By Cheyney

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Whether it was scoring, creating turnovers, grabbing rebounds or distributing the ball, Carl Wallace carried the Millersville men's basketball team for the majority of Wednesday night's 78-74 win over visiting Cheyney. His 20 points provided a much-needed spark as the Marauders overcame an off night and a late deficit for its 12th win of the season. 

Millersville (12-11, 8-6 PSAC East) has spent the entire season climbing back to .500 after starting 2-6. The Marauders finally got over the hump Wednesday night against a 3-21 Cheyney squad, but it was battle. Millersville scored just 29 points on 31 percent shooting in the first half and trailed by seven with 7:32 to go in the game. Even when Millersville fought back to tie the game at 62-62 with 5:41 to go, Cheyney retook the lead immediately.

The Marauders retied the game three more times but could not take the lead until Kelvin Parker sank two free throws and buried a three on back-to-back possessions to put the Marauders on top 74-70 with 2:21 left. Parker had one of his toughest nights as a Marauder, shooting 2-of-9 from the field, but he scored nine of his 14 points in the final 5:41. He drained six consecutive free throws including two with 14 seconds left that extended Millersville's advantage to two possessions. 

The win was key for Millersville as Lock Haven also won Wednesday night. Both teams are now 8-6 in the PSAC East, making Saturday's match-up at Pucillo Gymnasium the decider for the No. 4 seed and home court advantage in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. Millersville boosted its home record to 10-1 with the win. 

Wallace scored 20 points, giving him 46 in the last two games. He sank 8-of-13 shots from the field, recorded a team-high six rebounds, four steals and three assists in a do-it-all performance. Nate Bollinger hit 3-of-7 from three and totaled 12 points to go with three steals and three assists. Bollinger scored six points from the 8:06 mark to the 6:16 mark keeping Millersville close when it trailed by seven and Cheyney was threatening to pull away. His three and later free throw were part of a 10-3 run that pulled the Marauders and Wolves even. 

Millersville finished at 40.7 percent shooting after connecting on 13-of-25 field goals in the second half. Cheyney hit 15-of-27 shots in the second half but were undone by its 27 turnovers. Millersville generated 15 steals and converted those into 34 points. 

Tip for Saturday's game against Lock Haven is scheduled for 3 p.m.
