Parker Takes Control as Marauders Edge Mansfield

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - This game belonged to Kelvin Parker. The Millersville junior scored 20 of his career-high 28 points in the second half including 16 of Millersville's final 18 points in a thrilling, 65-62 win over Mansfield Wednesday night in Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville (10-11, 6-6 PSAC East) trailed 50-49 with just over six minutes remaining, but that's when Parker began imposing his will upon the game. Parker hit one of his five 3-pointers on Millersville's next trip, and when his team trailed by five with 4:23 to go, he answered with another three and eight consecutive makes at the free throw line. His two free throws with 1:16 remaining erased a one-point deficit and gave Millersville the lead for good.

Parker still had some more heroics to provide. Mansfield (6-17, 4-9 PSAC East) possessed the ball with an opportunity for the final shot trailing 63-62. The Mountaineers found Charles Pemberton on the baseline, but Parker's quick hands strip the ball away. He was immediately fouled, and he swished both free throws to give Mansfield only hope for a tie. Ryan Krawczeniuk's last ditch 3-pointer from the top of the key hit the front of the iron.

Mansfield had won 10 of the previous 11 meetings against Millersville, but the Marauders needed this one to stay in the PSAC Tournament mix. Millersville improved to 9-1 inside Pucillo Gymnasium and evened its PSAC East record at 6-6. Parker hit 7-of-12 shots from the field, 5-of-10 from three and 9-of-10 from the line, giving him five 20-point performances in nine games as a Marauder and in four of the last five games.

The Marauders entered the game shooting a deadly 39.6 percent from three at home and having score at least 80 points in four of its last five games. Mansfield rank dead last in the PSAC in scoring defense, but Millersville hit only 34.5 percent of its threes and struggled to get its offense clicking. It scored just 29 points in the first half but still led, 29-22.

Millersville led for all but a handful of seconds of the first half and led 35-26 after a J.D. Ricapito put-back slam dunk with 17:35 left in the second. The marked Millersville's largest lead, but it quickly dissipated. The Mountaineers reeled off a 13-2 run over the next four minutes, and it was only stopped when Parker buried a three at the 13:28 mark. The two clubs traded the lead 19 times in the game and 14 times in a back-and-forth final 14 minutes.

Parker was the lone Marauder in double-figures, but Carl Wallace added eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals to go with six points. Tyree Smith totaled three assists, two steals and seven points. Nate Bollinger also scored seven points. Mansfield's Joe Bell, who entered the game averaging better than 26 points per game in five previous meetings against the Marauders nearly met that average with 24.

Millersville travels to Kutztown on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip.
