Edinbro, Pa. - A late, second-half run against homestanding Edinboro was not enough for the Millersville Marauders in Wednesday's 88-76 PSAC road loss. The defeat dropped the Marauders to 0-5 on the road.
In a scene reminiscent of four other Marauder losses this season, they fell behind from the start. In just over three minutes of play, Edinboro raced to a 14-3 lead on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while Millersville made 1-of-4 shots in the same stretch. Millersville (4-7, 1-5 PSAC) has now lost four consecutive road games against PSAC West opponents and are 4-13 in such games since 2008-09.
One game night after shooting 19 percent from the field against Slippery Rock, Millersville shot an improved 44.4 percent from the field but allowed Edinboro to convert 57 percent of its shots. The Fighting Scots sunk the Marauders early with accurate shooting from three, hitting seven of nine attempts in the first nine minutes of the game. Back-to-back triples from Henri Wade-Chatman and Jaymon Mason and a jumper from Quinn Lee Yaw opened Edinboro's lead to 29-10 at the 11:20 mark.
Trailing 44-28 at the half, Millersville pulled to within nine with three minutes left in the game on three free throws from Sam Light. Light scored nine of his career-high 17 points, including seven from the line, in a 22-11 Marauder run over a seven minute stretch. But immediately after Light's three freebies, Edinboro scored five consecutive points and put the game out of reach.
Light tallied 15 of his points in the second half. Eddie Callender scored 16 points before fouling out. Like Light, Kelvin Parker scored 15 of his 17 in the second half and tallied a career-high six steals. Edinboro dominated the glass, out-rebounding Millersville by a 36-21 margin.
Millersville returns home on Saturday to host Mercyhurst. The Marauders are 3-1 in Pucillo Gymnasium this season. Game time against the Lakers is 3 p.m.
