West Chester, Pa. - Millersville women's basketball faced a deficit of just six points at the half, but West Chester outscored the Millersville 44-30 in the second half and turned 26 Marauder turnovers into 19 points en route to a 89-69 loss for the Black and Gold.
Millersville (2-1, 0-1 PSAC East) was outscored 19-8 in points off turnovers while the Golden Rams (3-0, 1-0 PSAC East) turned the ball over just eight times on the night. Five West Chester players turned in double figures led by 21 from Dallas Ely.
The Marauders trailed by just four, 54-50 after a free throw from
Yasmin Cooper with 15:23 to play in the second half, but the Golden Rams began to heat up. From that point on, West Chester outscored Millersville 35-20, were 12-of-28 from the field and seven points was the closest the Marauders could get.
The first half was a tightly contested one that saw six ties but Millersville led by as many six when it was 13-7 just under four minutes into the contest.The home team ended the first 20 minutes on a 9-4 run though and were up six, 45-39 heading into the locker rooms.
Statistically, the Marauders were led by 16 points from Cooper, 15 from
Shelby Reimer, 12 from
Carly Gallagher, and 10 by
Alexis Martin who turned her fourth career double double with 10 rebounds as well. Free throw shooting was an issue for Millersville as it was just 7-for-19 (36.8 percent) from the charity stripe. The Marauders did have the advantage in second chance points though by a margin of 19-8.
Millersville remains on the road Saturday in East Stroudsburg as the Marauders and Warriors are set for a 1 p.m. tip inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
