Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Millersville men's basketball extended its winning streak to three games, tied a school record with 17 3-pointers and poured in a season-high in points in Saturday's 91-63 rout of visiting Edinboro.
Millersville (5-6) improved to 5-1 in Pucillo Gymnasium and kept Edinboro (5-6) winless in nine games in the building. Edinboro entered the game with the PSAC's most accurate 3-point shooter in Johnny Marsh, but the roles reversed. Millersville drilled 17-of-33, and freshman
Tavon Parker hit 7-of-10 for a career-high 23 points. His seven threes were the most by a Marauder since Mike Seibert hit seven against Shippensburg in 2010. The previous team record of 17 was set in 1995 against Nyack.
Millersville's defense was suffocating for the third consecutive game, holding the Fighting Scots to 37.3 percent shooting from the field and 4-of-16 shooting from three. In the first half, the Marauders limited Edinboro to just nine field goals and 26.5 percent shooting while scoring 13 points off of 11 turnovers and eight steals. Millersville finished with 13 steals and forced 20 turnovers for the second consecutive game.
Parker's barrage started at the 11:21 mark of the first half. He hit triples on back-to-back possessions, starting a 26-4 run in which he hit 4-of-5 threes in less than three minutes. Millersville sank nine threes in the first half and led by as many as 26 before taking a 44-20 lead into the break.
The Marauder bombs kept dropping in the second half as Millersville pushed the lad to 42 points (78-36) with 9:31 to go after Parker hit two threes and
Kyle Richardson made one on three consecutive possessions.
Nate Bollinger, who finished with nine points, made the record-tying trey with 4:03 to go.
The balanced scoring continued for the Marauders with eight different players scoring at least seven points.
Jalen Lester's 12 put him double figures for the eighth consecutive game. Richardson added 10 points.
Brandon Brown recorded a career-high five steals to go with nine points.
Millersville's bench provided 49 points and has now contributed at least 27 in each game this season.
The Marauders have been a much-improved defensive team during its three-game winning streak. In the first eight games, Millersville allowed opponents to shoot 45.7 percent from three, ranking last in the PSAC. It also allowed 77.6 points per game. Millersville has held its last three opponents to 19.0 percent shooting from three (8-of-42) and to 69.0 points per game. Millersville has also averaged 12 steals per game in the winning streak.
Millersville heads to Erie, Pa., for a road PSAC crossover with Mercyhurst on Wednesday. PSAC East action resumes on Saturday at Mansfield.
