Parker Helps Marauders Pull Away from Ship

Millersville, Pa. - Kelvin Parker and the Millersville men's basketball team seemed to be completely in control for the full 40 minutes of Saturday's 88-71 win over Shippensburg. Parker's 23 sparked a Marauder team that led for nearly the entire 40 minutes and produced maybe its most efficient offensive performance of the season.
Millersville (8-9, 4-4 PSAC Easts) hit a season-best 48.4 percent of its shots, 11-of-26 from three and 15-of-20 from three. Parker's second 20-point effort in five games as a Marauder came on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. The only two shots he missed were threes. He also totaled a a career-high five assists without committing a turnover.
The Marauders trailed Shippensburg (2-17, 0-8 PSAC East) 27-25 with 4:02 left in the first half, but Anthony Coleman knotted the score on the following trip down the floor, starting a 14-1 run to close the period. While the Raiders crept back to within 52-48 with just under 13 minutes remaining, the Marauders quickly pulled away again using five points from both Nate Bollinger and Carl Wallace. Coleman hit his only triple of the game and Parker scored on a drive to put the Marauders in front 67-54.
Millersville continued the run, pushing the lead to as many as 20 with 1:23 left. Millersville outscored the Raiders 35-22 over the final 11-plus minutes and shot 16-for-30 in the second half alone.
Four different Marauders hit at least two 3-pointers. Tyree Smith added 11 points. J.D. Ricapito grabbed a career-high eight boards, and Kyle Richardson blocked three shots.
The win was Millersville's fourth consecutive over the Raiders. It also improved the Marauders to 7-1 at home this season.
The Marauders host Bloomsburg for an important PSAC East match-up on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Bloomsburg currently sits in second place in the standings with a 6-1 divisional record.
