Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at Lock Haven

Box Score Lock Haven, Pa. - Millersville just couldn't make the shots fall when it mattered most Wednesday evening at Lock Haven. The Marauders made a season-low four 3-pointers and fell by a 76-71 final on the road.

Lock Haven (11-6, 4-3 PSAC East) and Millersville (7-9, 3-4 PSAC East) entered the game with identical divisional records, and the Bald Eagles gained the upperhand in the standings by earning its 11th win for the first time since 2001. Millersville dropped to 1-8 on the road and lost its seventh game by fewer than 10 points.

Millersville ranked 11th in Division II and first in the PSAC in 3-pointers made per game (10.2) coming into the game but shot just 4-of-25 from long range and shot 34.8 percent from the field. It was a struggle on the offensive end all night but especially in the second half when the visitors made just 1-of-13 threes.

The Marauders trailed 67-56 with 5:29 left in the game but managed to creep closer by holding Lock Haven without a field goal for the final four minutes and forced five turnovers in that span. Millersville, however, could not fully capitalize and failed to make a basket from the field over the final 3:09. Kelvin Parker scored with 3:09 to go to bring Millersville to within 70-66, and it closed the gap to 72-69 when Brandon Brown made one of two free throws with 1:12 left. Millersville came up empty on its final five shot attempts, though.

Carl Wallace led four Marauders in double figures with a career-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the line. He also grabbed a team and career-high eight rebounds in just 16 minutes. He was one of the few Marauders to produce a banner stat line. Parker totaled 10 points but shot 4-of-17 from the field and 0-of-8 from three. Tyree Smith totaled 11 points on 2-of-9 shooting and Jalen Lester scored 11 on 4-of-8 shooting.

Lock Haven was led by the PSAC's leading scorer Wali Hepburn, who scored 22 points--right on his season average. Lock Haven hit 11-of-23 shots in the second half and after making all 11 first half free throws, it finished 24-of-31 from the line.

Millersville had won 13 in a row over the Bald Eagles. Lock Haven's most recent win over Millersville before Wednesday was on Dec. 21, 2000.

Millersville can even its PSAC East record on Saturday against Shippensburg, which is currently winless (0-7) in divisional play. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
