Box Score Indiana, Pa. - No. 14 Millersville women's soccer entered Saturday's PSAC tilt at Indiana (Pa.) needing a win to claim the best start in school history. That Marauders got that win in dramatic fashion. Just over three minutes into overtime,
Felicia Cramer scored a golden goal to lift Millersville to a 1-0 win and a 5-0-1 start.
The victory pushed Millersville's (5-0-1) streak to six games without a loss, and it was the first win over IUP (4-3) since 1998. It did not come easily as the two teams clashed in a constant, driving downpour for the entire 93:31.
IUP out-shot the Marauders 14-3 and held an 8-2 edge in penalty corners. Cramer's score was Millersville's only shot on goal. IUP, meanwhile, fired seven at
Olivia Webber, who turned them all away to register her third shutout in the last four matches.
Millersville's scoring opportunities were few.
Savannah Hall's shot was blocked following a corner at the 31:12 mark of the first half.
Kelsey Mattola pushed a shot high early in the second frame. With under six minutes left in regulation, Millersville drew a corner but could not manage a shot.
IUP threatened late when Tonya Fabian fired a shot at Webber. Webber made the save with just over one minute to go.
The Crimson Hawks challenged Webber again at the 93 minute mark. Webber's save, however, turned into a scoring opportunity for Millersville. Only 31 seconds later, Cramer won a scramble for the ball and directed a shot from the left wing inside the lower 90.
Millersville and East Stroudsburg, which plays at 7 p.m. Saturday night, are the only unbeaten teams remaining in the PSAC. Saturday's contest was the start of a challenging four-match road swing for the Marauders. The trip includes a weekend stay in Erie against Gannon and Mercyhurst and a clash with Shippensburg.
