Box Score Millersville, Pa. - For the first time this season the Millersville women's lacrosse team tasted the agony of defeat. After beginning the season with four straight wins the Marauders fell 22-12 to Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon. 

Millersville (4-1, 0-1 PSAC) received strong play from goalie Lauren Mateja who saved a season high 17 shots. Caitlin Shannon led the Marauders with a hat trick and seven different players scored for the third time this season, but the home team was plagued by errant passes and mistakes on offense. Millersville commited a season high 30 turnovers against the Crimson Hawks in the defeat. 

Indiana (Pa.) (4-0, 1-0) had four players each score four goals in the game. Leading scorer Alexa Lodivici and teammates Michelle Zakrzewski, Drew Hayden, and Colleen Berlin all placed four shots in the back of the net. In the cage goalkeepers Chelsey Hipp and Kaitlin Sterling combined for six saves in the victory.

The first half was a story of streaks. The Marauders got off to a hot start by scoring three of the game's first four goals. Hannah Vogel's goal and assist in the first two minutes gave the home team an early 3-1 lead. 

The Crimson Hawks answered by scoring six straight goals. A hat trick by Lodivici and goals by Zakrzewski, Hayden, and Tara Nicholas turned the tides to 7-3 in favor of IUP with 18 minutes still to play in the first period.

Millersville answered by scoring four of the next five goals and closed the gap to 8-7 after Kathryn Kehring assisted on back-to-back goals to Abby Mack and Brooke Fisher. Fisher's tally marked her team high 18th goal of the year and is the seventh in the PSAC so far this season.

Despite being outshot 24-10 in the first period, the Marauders had nine more saves than Indiana (Pa.) to keep the score close at 10-8 at the break.

The second half did not bode well for the home team as the Marauders saw a two goal deficit turn into a 10 goal difference with 11 minutes remaining to play. Indiana (Pa.) did not allow Millersville to score consecutive goals in the final half and finished the game by scoring six more goals than the Marauders in the final 17 minutes of the game.

After allowing 21 goals in its first four games of the season the Crimson Hawks' 22 goals was by far the most the Marauders have allowed this year. 

Millersville has to rebound from the loss as it travels to face nationally ranked West Chester on Saturday, March 30. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
