Hilton Head, S.C. – Playing the first match of its Spring Break trek to Hilton Head, S.C., Millersville's men's tennis team could only come up with one victory Sunday afternoon, being defeated by the Gators, 8-1.
The team's only win came courtesy of
Jody Sambrick Jr. Sambrick claimed the team's first match of the day, using three sets to nip Allegheny's No. 1 player, Patrick Cole. The Lampeter-Strasburg High School product fell behind after dropping the first set, 0-6, but rallied to take the second set, 6-4 and tied the match at a set apiece. Sambrick then took the third and deciding set, 10-8.
From there, no other Marauder could grab a victory as the team fell in each of its final eight matches, including all three doubles matchups. Sambrick and
Niko Mucci grabbed the most set wins in doubles play, falling to the Allegheny pairing of Sam Stephenson and Alex Hurtuck, 8-6.
Millersville falls to 2-3 on the season, while Allegheny stays undefeated at 5-0. The Marauders' next match is Monday at 3 p.m., as the team takes on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
