Millersville, Pa. – Friday afternoon at the McComsey Tennis Courts the Millersville women's tennis team grabbed its third win of the season with a 6-3 win over the University of the Sciences, but the men's team could not complete the sweep, getting blanked by the Devils, 9-0.
The women's team moves to 3-3 with the win.
Melissa Plowman took three sets to defeat USciences' No. 1 player, topping Victoria Quang, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Elizabeth Wagner captured the team's second match of the day by shutting out Melissa White, 6-0, 6-0.
Nicole Daacke followed up, winning in the fourth slot by 6-1, 6-0 scores.
Maggie Karr won the team's final singles match by an 8-5 total.
In doubles play, the team's top duo of Plowman and Waite dropped an 8-4 decision to Quang and Anna Vo, but Wagner and
Alexandra Heller gave the team its fifth tally in the win column with a 9-7 triumph over Sarah Durham and Desiree Vassalotti. Daacke and
Tori Davis won the Marauders' sixth match of the day, 8-0, over USciences' pairing of Nicole D'Ascenzo and Tea Cadenovic.
The men's team was not able to take any matches from the Devils, dropping its record to 2-2. Until
Dylan Ryan played in the fourth slot, no Millersville player had claimed more than two games. Ryan fell to William Metz in three sets, dropping the first set 6-3. Ryan recovered to win the second set by a 6-2 margin, but dropped the third and deciding set, 11-9. In doubles play, only the combo of
Kevin Tran and
Tucker Mertz were able to grab a game, falling to Metz and partner Julian Katzev, 8-1.
Both the women and men's teams now embark on their spring break trips, with a first stop to Allegheny College on Mar. 17 on the docket. Both teams start play against the Gators at 11:30 a.m.
