GAME NOTES
· Millersville has relied on its defense all season and on Wednesday night, it gave out in the second half against Bloomsburg. The Marauders allowed 43 points in the second half--the most in 19 games--to surrender a 19-point lead in triple overtime. Millersville has now played five overtime sessions in the last four games.
Anthony Coleman scored a career-high 33 points and knocked down the most free throws (19) by a Marauder since Roger Raspen set the school record in 1965. Millersville, the best 3-point field goal defense in the PSAC, allowed Bloomsburg to hit 12 3-pointers--the most allowed all season.
· The loss dropped the Marauders a game behind West Chester for the No. 2 seed in the East and a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament. The good news is that the Marauders can make up that ground Saturday against the Golden Rams. In the first meeting, Millersville commited just 14 turnovers--the second fewest by a West Chester opponent this season and 1.9 below the Marauders' average. Millersville also attempted a season-low eight 3-pointers but converted its fourth-best shooting percentage of the season at 46.0 percent. Millersville dominated inside, holding a 36-20 edge in points in the paint. Millersville is 14-3 when holding an edge in the paint.
· Coleman is on quite a tear. Over his last 10 games, he's averaged 17.2 points per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three and 80.7 percent from the line. In eight games against the PSAC East, Coleman is averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game. He has totaled 80 points in his last three games, marking the best three-game stretch by a Marauder since Reggie Bates totaled 82 from Dec. 8-Jan. 2, 2008. It's the highest three-game total against PSAC East opponents since Greg Testa's 87 against West Chester, Mansfield and ESU in Feb. 2006.
· Elijah Obade's competition for the Division II lead in rebounding, Dominykas Milka of Saint Rose, grabbed 15 rebounds Wednesday while Obade totaled 12. That pushed Milka's average to 11.9, slightly ahead of Obade's 11.7. Obade still owns the PSAC lead in rebounding and blocked shots. He trails Antwine Moore's school record of 63 blocks by only eight. Obade is on pace to be the only Marauder to average 2.0 blocks in back-to-back seasons. Obade also leads the PSAC in double-doubles with 11, and that total surpasses Touchi Udeinya (10 in 2001-02 and 2002-03) for the most single-season double-doubles in
Fred Thompson's 15 seasons. Edinboro's Ryan McLemore in 2007-08 was the last player to lead the league in blocks and rebounds in the same season.
· Home court is incredibly important in this series. The home team has won 24 of the 30 games during
Fred Thompson's tenure. Millersville has won six in a row against West Chester at home. The last Golden Ram's win in Pucillo was on Jan. 11, 2006, 81-66.
ABOUT WEST CHESTER
· The Golden Rams are road warriors, going 8-1 away from Hollinger Fieldhouse. Of those wins, however, only one came against a team with a winning record (Slippery Rock on Dec .18). Beginning with Wednesday's 86-72 win over Mansfield, five of their final seven games are on the road. Jon Breeden and Troy Hockaday have emerged as the team's go-to scorers as the duo has led the team in scoring in each of the last six games. West Chestert ranks eighth in the PSAC in scoring defense and fourth in scoring offense but outscores opponents by just 3.2 points per game. The key to West Chester's success is taking care of the ball and forcing turnovers. It forces 19.4 turnovers per game, ranking second in the league, while committing just 15.8. It also ranks first in steals per game (10.6). West Chester is 13-0 when shooting better than 40.0 percent from the field.
