Marauders Downed by Huskies in Triple Overtime

Box Score Bloomsburg, Pa. - Millersville just couldn't bury the Bloomsburg Huskies Wednesday night in Nelson Fieldhouse. The Marauders led by as many as 19 and held leads in the final 30 seconds of the first two overtimes, but Bloomsburg outlasted Millersville in the third overtime for a 100-94 win.

Millersville (15-7, 11-5 PSAC) and Bloomsburg (6-14, 4-12 PSAC) played to overtime for the fourth time in the last eight meetings and to triple overtime for the second time in the last five. Bloomsburg made 12 3-pointers, which was the most against the Marauders this season, and that total more than offset Anthony Coleman's career-high 33 pints and near-school record 19 made free throws. He made 17 of his first 18 and finished 19-of-22, making the most by a Marauder since Roger Raspen set the school record against Bloomsburg in 1965.

Millersville led for more than 51 of the 55 minutes of basketball, but Bloomsburg held the lead when it mattered most. Millersville led 43-26 at the half, but Bloomsburg turned the tables and outscored Millersville 42-15 in the second. It was the most points allowed in a half by the Marauders since the second game of the season.

A 19-point Marauder lead became a 68-68 tie with 23 seconds left in regulation on a layup by Moustapha Noumbissi. The score capped a 6-0 Bloomsburg run in the final three minutes.

The Marauders let another opportunity register a win slip away in the first overtime. In a span of 10 seconds, the Marauders missed two free throws, which resulted in an 80-77 lead with nine seconds left. The Marauders elected not to foul on Bloomsburg's last possession, and Lorenzo Christmas made them pay, drilling a game-tying three from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded.

In the second overtime, the Marauders ran their lead to 87-83 with 56 seconds left on a pair of Larry Grant free throws. Dontahe Jordan sank two free throws with 35 seconds left, and on the ensuing inbounds play, the Marauders committed a turnover. Two seconds later, Zach Sheetz drew a foul, and he sank both to tie the game at 87. Grant's shot with a second left rimmed out.

Bloomsburg's relentlessness finally paid off in the third overtime. Coleman gave the Marauders a quick lead, but Bloomsburg pulled away using six consecutive makes from the line in the final 18 seconds.

The loss was a fifth in a row for the Marauders inside Nelson Fieldhouse. Millersville has now played five overtimes in less than two weeks.

In addition to his 33 points, Coleman added a career-high six steals. Elijah Obade blocked five shots and  tallied his 11th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan led Bloomsburg with 29.

For Millersville, a team fighting for a first-round bye in the PSAC Tournament, the loss was even difficult to take as it now trails West Chester by a game for the No. 2 seed. Millersville hosts the Golden Rams on Saturday at 3 p.m.
