Bollinger's Miracle Shot All for Naught in OT Loss to Mansfield

Mansfield, Pa. - Trailing by three with just over a second remaining in regulation, Millersville's Nate Bollinger rebounded a Mansfield missed free throw and launched a shot from 75-feet away. The heave banked home to tie the game at 62. Mansfield, however, recovered and topped Millersville 82-75 in overtime.

Millersville (17-10, 13-8 PSAC), playing its third game in six days and its second overtime game of the week, ran out of steam in the second half. The Marauders led by four at the break, but quickly fell behind by as many as 12 before making a miracle rally.

Mansfield (8-17, 6-15 PSAC), fighting for its playoff life, led Millersville five with 25 seconds left but couldn't close the door in regulation. Millersville had three opportunities in the final minute to tie the game or take the lead but committed two turnovers and missed a shot. Mansfield took a four-point lead on a Chuck Harper free throw with 10 seconds left, and after Larry Grant missed a 3-pointer at the other end, Elijah Obade tipped it back in for two, bringing Millersville to within 61-59 with just a couple of ticks remaining. The Marauders immediately fouled Harper, sending him to the line for a pair. Harper made the first but missed the second. Bollinger caught carom, and from the free throw line sank the game-tying shot at the buzzer.

Brandon Brown, who finished with a career-high 20 points, banked in a 3-pointer 1:18 into the overtime to give the Marauders a 65-63 lead. Millersville, however, had no magic left as Mansfield scored on its next trip and put the game away at the free throw line. The back-breaker came in the form of Brady Burke's 3-pointer with 1:17 left, which put the Mountaineers in front, 71-65.

Brown's 20 points came on 6-of-14 shooting from the field--all of his makes 3-pointers. Larry Grant totaled 13 points and nine assists, and Anthony Coleman and Bollinger added 12 apiece. Xavier Mumford and Elijah Obade each hit double-figures in rebounds with 12 and 10 respectively. Harper, who did not play in the first meeting, led Mansfield with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Millersville has now lost five consecutive games at Mansfield. The Marauders struggled shooting all game against the PSAC's lowest-ranked scoring and shooting percentage defense. The Marauders shot 33.8 percent from the field and 16-of-28 from the line. The 11 3-pointers kept the Marauders in the mix.

Millersville, already locked in as the No. 3 seed from the East in the PSAC Tournament, closes its regular season on Wednesday against Shippensburg. The Marauders could possibly tangle with Mansfield again in the opening round. The Mountaineers are currently tied with Bloomsburg in the No. 5 spot, leading Shippensburg by one game.
