GAME NOTES
· Millersville halted a three-game skid with Monday's 66-59 overtime victory over Kutztown but
receives a stiff challenge from ninth-ranked and PSAC East leading East Stroudsburg. The Warriors handed Millersville a 16-point loss on Jan. 23, and that stands as Millersville's second-worst defeat this season. ESU has won three in a row and seven of the last eight. The last three ESU wins have come by an average of 16.3 points. ESU has won three of the last four in Pucillo Gymnasium.
· Anthony Coleman is on a roll, scoring in double-figures in seven consecutive games and in 11 of the last 13 games. He's scored in double figures in nine of 11 games against the PSAC East. Against division rivals, Coleman is averaging a team-best 16.2 points on 48.8 percent shooting. Only
Larry Grant (12.8) is averaging better than 10 points per game against the PSAC East. Coleman is also developing into a crunchtime scorer. Against Kutztown, all 12 of his points came in the second half and in overtime. Over the last seven games, 87 of his 130 points (67 percent) have come after halftime. When Coleman scores in double figures this season, 63 percent of the points have come after halftime.
· Elijah Obade blocked three shots against Kutztown, bringing his PSAC-leading total to 65. That mark sets a new Millersville single-seaosn record that has stood since 1995-96 (Antwine Moore). Obade has blocked at least one shot in every game this season, and has two or more in 20 of 25 games and in eight in a row. Obade also leads the PSAC and ranks 10th nationally in double-doubles with 11--the most in
Fred Thompson's 15-year tenure. Obade is the only player in the PSAC to average more than 10 rebounds per game. His 11.3 would be the highest by a PSAC player since 2004-05 and the highest by a Maraudder since 1970. His 65 blocks leads the No. 2 shot-blocker by 26. Edinboro's Ryan McLemore in 2007-08 was the last player to lead the league in blocks and rebounds in the same season.
· While Obade's rebounding and shotblocking is important, the Marauders are at their best when he scores. Millersville is 12-3 when Obade scores in double figures and just 4-6 when he scores nine or fewer. Millersville is 8-3 when Obade records a double-double.
Jaymes Miller, the other half of Millersville's inside tandem, is a key to success as well. He led the team with 18 points against Kutztown, improving the team's record to 3-1 this season when he scores at least 10. It is a continuing trend as the Marauders were 7-6 with Miller in double figures and 2-11 without in 2012.
· Success on the boards translates to success in the win column for the Marauders. Millersville is 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC when it out-rebounds its opponent and just 7-7 and 7-6 when it gets out-rebounded. The Marauders are also 14-3 when totaling more second chance points and 2-6 overall and 1-6 against the PSAC when coming up short in secod chance points. Millersville outrebounded 11 of its first 15 opponents but has not won the rebounding battle in nine consecutive games. In that 5- 4 stretch, the Marauders have been out-rebounded on average 38.8-34.4. Before that stretch, Millersville averaged a 37.6-34.3 edge on the glass and the team was 11-5.
ABOUT EAST STROUDSBURG
· East Stroudsburg holds a two-game lead over West Chester for first place in the PSAC East with three games to play. The Warriors are the defending PSAC champs and boast the best record in the PSAC as the only 20 win team. Two of the team's three losses have come on the road, and oddly, all three losses have come by double-digits against teams with losing records. The Warriors do their damage with a full court press that causes a PSAC-leading 20.1 turnovers per game. Millersville committed a season-high 25 in the first meeting on Jan. 23. Whis Grant leads the Warriors in scoring at 17.5 points per game. He did not play the last game and his presence was missed as the Warriors lost 87-77 to Shippensburg.
