Men's Basketball Uses Three to Down California

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Millersville men's basketball hit a season-high 13 3-pointers and shot a near-perfect 17-of-18 from the free throw line to defeat visiting California (Pa.) 78-66 Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville (3-6) improved to 3-1 at home and snapped a three-game skid thanks to its long-range sharp shooting. Jalen Lester, Nate Bollinger, Kyle Richardson and Tyree Smith all hit three 3-pointers, and Millersville sank 13-of-33. The Marauders heated up late in the first half and built a lead of 20 points early in the second period with its 3-point barrage. The Marauders have topped California in nine of the last 11 games played in Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville sank six threes in the final six minutes of the first half earned its first halftime lead of the season at 38-26. Anthony Coleman opened the second period in familiar fashion, drilling a triple. Lester and Bollinger followed with threes and a Brandon Brown bucket gave Millersville the first 11 points of the half.

Richardson sank a pair of free throws with 10:44 left to give the Marauders' their largest lead of the game at 56-34. California (4-7) frantically tried to come back, and an Arman Marks' 3-pointer with 2:04 left brought the Vulcans to within 69-63.

The Marauders extended the lead at the foul line, though, hitting 7-of-8 in the final 1:28. Millersville made its first 15, which was one more than the current school record.

Lester scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game, totaling 15 of 5-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from three. Smith, Bollinger and Richardson all scored 13. Richardson hit 3-of-4 3-pointers, 4-of-5 shots from the field and 4-of-4 free throws. Xavier Mumford grabbed 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

The Vulcans were limited to 37.3 percent shooting from the field and only 3-of-15 shooting from three.
