Box Score Greensburg, Pa. - Millersville men's basketball led Seton Hill by five with seven minutes to go, but the Marauder offense disappeared down the stretch, and the Griffins pulled away to hand the Maraudersn 83-74 defeat Wednesday evening.
Jalen Lester started the game with a 3-pointer, and Millersville (2-6) led the homestanding Griffins (7-3) for more than 33 minutes of action.
Brandon Brown put the Marauders in front 64-59 with 7:21 to go, but they missed six of its next seven shots and committed four turnovers until
Tyree Smith hit a three with 1:21 to go. Millersville never recovered from that six-minute stretch as Seton Hill pushed its lead to as many as nine.
Seton Hill recorded a 16-3 run from the 6:45 mark to Smith's three in the waning minutes. That run was aided by eight made free throws--four of which came when Marauder coach
Fred Thompson was hit with two technical fouls and ejected. Those four makes from the line pushed Seton Hill's advantage from two points to 69-64 with 5:11 left.
Millersville furiously attempted a comeback in the final minute. Lester hit a three, and Smith made a pair of free throws to pull Millersville 76-74 with 56 seconds left. The Marauders, however, missed 3-pointers on each of its final four possessions, and Seton Hill put the win away by sinking five of six free throws.
Seton Hill canned 47.3 percent of its shots and made 27-of-36 from the line. Malachi Leonard produced a double-double with 27 pionts and 18 rebounds. Smith led the Marauders with a career-high 23 points. Lester scored 14 for his fifth consecutive game with double figures. Millersville made 12 3-pointers but hoisted 38--the most since attempting 41 on Dec. 2, 2007. Four of Millersville's six losses came by single digits.
Millersville returns home on Saturday against California (Pa.). Tip is slated for 3 p.m.
