Box Score Wilmington, Del. - After falling behind as many as 14 points, Millersville men's basketball rallied to take a lead in the final two minutes. The Lightning, however, pulled away late for a 74-71 home win.
For the fourth time in four games, Millersville (1-3) trailed at the half and scored more than 40 points in the second period. Despite a late charge, the Marauders failed to overcome Goldey-Beacom (2-3) after making only one field goal in the final 2:38.
Millersville shot 38 percent from the field while Goldey-Beacom hit 50 percent of its shots in the first half and 43 percent for the game. The home team also sank 8-of-17 from three.
Jalen Lester and
Tavon Parker each scored 13 points, and
Tyree Smith scored 11.
Goldey-Beacom had the Marauders down 60-46 with 9:08 to go. Millersville slowly chipped away, and threes from Smith and Lester and a bucket from Parker in a three minute span capped an 8-0 run that tied the game at 66 with 2:38 left.
Millersville took the lead on its next possession when
Brandon Brown made one of two free throws. The Marauders missed their next four shots from the field, though, and made only two free throws and a basket with three seconds left. Goldey-Beacom did not make a field goal over the final 5:38 but scored its final eight points from the free throw line.
Millersville hasn't started 1-3 since 2001-02, but all three of the teams losses have been by seven points or less. Millersville returns to Pucillo Gymnasium on Dec. 4 to take on West Chester in a PSAC East contest.Â
