Women's Soccer Handed Second Straight Overtime Loss

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Less than 48 hours removed from a double-overtime defeat, the Millersville women's soccer team experienced extra minute agony again. On Friday afternoon it was Georgian Court who scored the final two goals of the game and knocked in the game-winner in the 99th minute to top the Marauders, 2-1.

With the warm weather beating down on Biemsderfer Stadium, Millersville (5-4-1) and Georgian Court (6-2-1) were deadlocked at one goal apiece after 90 minutes of regulation.

In the 99th minute the Lions' Tayler Bramley collected the ball just past midfield and played a forward pass to a surging Taylor Mize. Mize was able to get behind the Marauder defense and only had Black and Gold keeper Olivia Webber to beat.

Webber made a diving attempt but Mize just escaped her reach with a touch to the left, and buried her second goal of the game to give her team the 2-1 victory.

Millersville finished the game 15 shots and three corners. Five different Marauders took at least two shots against the Lions. Megan Wilson scored the lone goal for the home team, knocking in her second score of the season. Savannah Hall and Victoria Kramer led the team with two shots on goal. Webber made five saves in the defeat.

Georgian Court also took 15 shots in the match, but were limited to only two corners. Mize led all players with seven shots, four shots on goal, and her two scores now gives her five goals on the season. Goalie Casey O'Connor saved six Marauder attempts on the day.

Neither team was able to breakthrough in the first half. Despite outshooting the visitors 9-5, Millersville failed to score and entered halftime tied at zero.

The Marauders struck first in the second period off of the foot of Wilson.

The Millersville native collected the ball on the left baseline, took a few dribbles, juked her defender and had an open-yet tough-angle on the goal. Wilson didn't hesitate and lofted her shot over O'Connor's glove and gave the home team the 1-0 lead in the 48th minute.

Georgian Court answered less then 10 minutes later. In the 57th minute, Carly LoVerde crossed the ball to Mize, who one timed her shot into the lower left corner of the goal and tied the match at one.

The heat took its toll on the teams in the final minutes of regulation. Both squads created dangerous scoring opportunities but were thwarted by the opposing defense.

Mize's golden goal in the 99th minute gave the Marauders their third loss of the season by just one goal.

Millersville's next game is on the road at East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, October 8. The Marauders and the Warriors are set to kickoff at 5 p.m.
