Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team defeated Pitt-Johnstown 3-1 on Saturday night to pick up its most wins in a single season in nine years. The victory over the Mountain Cats was the Marauders eighth of the year, the most since the 2004 squad picked up 10 wins.
Millersville (8-7-1, 7-6-1 PSAC) started the scoring first when
Sara Cressman notched her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. In the second half team scoring leader
Megan Wilson put in her fourth score and freshman
Savannah Hall blasted home a penalty kick for her first career goal in a black and gold uniform. Freshman keeper
Samantha Wolfe played the entire second half and made four saves in her first career win.
Pitt-Johnstown (0-15, 0-15 PSAC) took a season-high 14 shots against the Marauders with Karley Staffen scoring the lone goal for the Mountain Cats. Staffen's goal in the 27th minute was her first score this season and tied the game in the middle of the first half. Goalkeeper Timi Shiock made three saves in the defeat.
Cressman's goal in the 22nd minute came off of a rebound shot from teammate
Kelsey Mattola. Cressman easily knocked in the point blank attempt and put the home team up, 1-0.
The Mountain Cats recorded the equalizer five minutes later and the teams would head into halftime tied, 1-1.
Millersville took control of the match in the second half. Wilson's goal came in the 58th minute off of an assist from Hall. Three minutes later
Felicia Cramer was fouled in the box and Hall sent home the penalty kick, giving Millersville a 3-1 edge.
Pitt-Johnstown had two breakaway opportunities in the wanning minutes of action, but Wolfe came up huge for the Marauders. The freshman keeper thwarted both shots and kept the visitors off the scoreboard the entire second half.
Millersville has two more games to make a run at the PSAC Tournament. The Marauders next contest is on the road at Slippery Rock on Oct. 30.
