Coleman, Marauders Power Past Edinboro with Strong Second Half

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - In desperate need of an offensive spark Saturday night against Edinboro, Millersville turned to Anthony Coleman, and he provided it. The junior scored 18 points as the Marauders broke a halftime time and ran away with a 74-62 victory.

Millersville (9-4, 5-2 PSAC) poured in 46 second-half points after managing just 28 in the first half. Its usual stingy defense was working as well, holding Edinboro (8-3, 4-3 PSAC)--the PSAC's highest scoring team--to 13 points fewer than its average and to just 33.9 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from three.

Edinboro employed a match-up zone for the majority of the game, and Millersville used some sharp shooting early to pull in front 20-12 on a 3-pointer from Nate Bollinger with 9:49 to go in the first half. But just like the day before against Slippery Rock when the Marauders went nine minutes with just two points, they went ice cold again. The eight-point lead dwindled as the Marauders missed their next eight shots from the field. With three minutes left in the half, Edinboro capped a 12-0 run and took a 24-20 lead.

But on the Marauders' next possession, Coleman, who moved from the wing into the high post, worked his way into the lane for two. Larry Grant, who finished with a team-high 19 points on the night, found Danny Rodriguez for a 3-pointer on the next trip, and Coleman scored again the following possession to put Millersville on top 27-26.

Coleman missed his first six shots from the field, but after moving into the high post, he ripped apart Edinboro's zone with slashing drives and pull-up jumpers in the second half. He made six of his final seven shots and drained all six foul shots the rest of the way.

Edinboro still held a 33-32 lead with 17 minutes left in the game, but Coleman's pair of foul shots broke the tie and gave the Marauders the lead for all but 20 seconds the rest of the way.

The Marauders slowly pulled away in the final six minutes by holding Edinboro to just one point from the 7:47 mark until three minutes to go. Grant buried Edinboro at the free throw line, sinking 10-of-11 in the game and 9-of-9 in the second half.

Elijah Obade, who battled Edinboro center Bryan Theriot all evening, finished with 11 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks. Theriot entered the game averaging better than 20 points per game. Obade limited him to 15 on 5-of-12 shooting and also pestered him into committing seven turnovers.

Millersville matched the 2011-12 season win total with Saturday's triumph and also kept Edinboro winless all-time in Pucillo Gymnasium. Edinboro's two threes and 19 field goals were the fewest it has made all season.

The Marauders now head West for a Friday/Saturday back-to-back against California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.). Both games are schedule for 7:30 p.m. and fans can listen live on MSBN.
