Short-Handed Marauders Ride Coleman's Hot Hand for Comeback Win

Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. - Millersville trailed Shippensburg by as many as nine and by seven mid-way through the second half, but riding the hot-hand of Anthony Coleman and some timely shooting from Larry Grant, the Marauders rallied for a 63-62 win Wednesday in Heiges Field House.

Millersville (14-6, 10-4 PSAC) was just 1-7 in Heiges under Coach Fred Thompson entering the PSAC East clash. And playing without regular rotation players Brandon Belt, Xavier Mumford, Kyle Richardson and Danny Rodriguez, the Marauders needed a lift at the offensive end. Coleman, playing not far from his hometown of Carlisle, obliged with 12-of-19 shooting for a season-high 28 points. 22 of his points came in the second half when the Marauders staged their comeback.

Even after the Marauders took the lead late, Shippensburg (4-14, 2-12 PSAC) received a 3-pointer from Tyheim Perrin with 1:16 left to bring the score to 63-62. The Red Raiders forced a Marauder miss on the next possession. Ship coach Dave Springer called a timeout with 4.2 seconds remaining to set up a last shot. The ball was inbounded from half court, and Reggie Charles launched a three from the top of the key that hit back iron as the buzzer sounded.

Shippensburg held a nine-point lead with 18:34 left, but Coleman scored six of the Marauders' next 10 points to cut the deficit to one. Ship extended the lead quickly back to seven at the 11:50 mark, but Coleman and Grant hit threes on four consecutive offensive possessions. Grant's second with 7:56 to go tied the game at 54-54. Coleman followed a Shippensburg miss with a three-point play to give the Marauders a three-point lead. Millersville managed to hold on and survive Ship's last ditch effort.

Elijah Obade recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. He also swatted two shots. Dylan Edgar led Shippensburg with 17 points.

Millersville returns to Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday for 3 p.m. tip against Mansfield.
