Box Score

Kutztown, Pa. - Coming into Saturday's matchup with Fairmont State, the Millersville men's tennis team hadn't tasted a team victory since April 21, 2012, when it took down Edinboro in the PSAC Team Championships to claim third. The Marauders got back to winning ways with a decisive 6-1 win over the Fighting Falcons in their second match of the season.

Millersville swept the doubles matchups. The combo of Jody Sambrick Jr. and Corey Garnier defeated Jeremy Gouzd and Connor McMorrow 8-2. Following the opening-match win, Tucker Mertz and Kevin Tran teamed up to defeat Stephen Ware and Noah Wiber by an 8-1 score. To claim all three doubles matches, the final tandem of Dylan Ryan and Niko Mucci came through with an 8-4 win over Lucas Myers and David Bannister.

In the singles matchups, Sambrick got the Marauders started with a win over Gouzd 6-2, 6-0. Garnier was the only one to drop a decision on the day, falling to Smith 6-3, 7-5. Tran took the third-spot matchup by beating Ware 6-0, 6-1. Ryan then kept Millersville's winning ways going by taking a three-set thriller 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. Finally, Mucci defeated Shaffer in the last singles matchup 6-1, 6-0.

The Marauders next take to the courts on Oct. 1 against Harford Community College. Last year, the team fell to Harford by a 5-4 score.
