Gettysburg, Pa. – Before being hit with a torrential downpour, the Millersville track & field team's trip to the Mason-Dixon Invitational proved to be a successful one, as the Marauders won eight events, had eight PSAC Championship-qualifying results and took down a meet and stadium record.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Chrissy Savage, Erin Mason, Abby Schneider and Katherine Lennex took down a meet- and stadium-record with its win in the event. The group finished with a time of 48.85 seconds.
Mason also won the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 13.01 seconds. She also had the top time in the preliminaries, running a 13.07 in that dash. Those two times would have both qualified Mason for the PSAC Championships, had she not already done so. She also ran a PSAC qualifying time in the 200-meter dash, taking second with a time of 26.62 seconds.
For the men in the 200-meter dash, Keith Ogden won the event while running it for the first time this season. Ogden qualified for the PSAC Championships with his winning time of 22.25 seconds. Ogden, however, was not the only men's sprinter to take down a qualifying time.
Ryan Griffith also had one in the 110-meter hurdles, even though he had already grabbed a spot earlier this season. Griffith topped all preliminary times with a 15.82-second finish and despite improving upon that time in the finals with a 15.77-second sprint; Griffith took second overall for the event.
The other two members of the men's team to win events were Zach Kohler, who topped all pole vault finishes with a 3.81-meter leap and Justin Berg, who won the hammer throw with a toss of 46.64 meters. Kohler's pole vault was not a PSAC finish, and Berg's would have been if he had not already qualified this season.
The women's team also had success in the weight throw, notching the top two finishers for the event. Ann Kovacs and Kelli Farris finished first and second, respectively. Both had PSAC results but have already qualified. Kovacs won the event with a throw of 44.24 meters and Farris followed up her teammate with a 40.19-meter heave.
The two other winners for Millersville on the day were Sarah Mulvey, who notched a victory in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 39:49.11 and Whitney Savoy, who had a long jump distance of 4.93 meters for the win. The team is back in action next weekend at the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia from April 26-28 and in the Paul Kraiser Invitational at Shippensburg University on April 28.
