Kutztown Edges Marauders in PSAC Semifinal

Results

Kutztown, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team made its first PSAC Team Championship appearance in five years Tuesday at Kutztown, but the postseason stay was brief as the Marauders were edged 5-4 by the Golden Bears.

The match started promisingly for the Marauders (7-12), winning No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Samantha Prager and Melissa Plowman rolled to an 8-3 win, and Kara Fisher and Kelsey Waite teamed for an 8-4 win.

Kutztown, however, did just enough to pull out the victory by winning three singles matches. Waite won her match 7-6, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot, and Wagner notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.

Two of the singles bouts went three sets. Prager (No. 2) and Fisher (No. 3) were both clipped after winning their first sets.

Millersville's season comes to a close with its most wins since 2008-09. The doubles team of Prager and Plowman finished with a 13-6 record. It's the most wins by a Millersville team since 2004-05.

Plowman, a two-time PSAC East Player of the Week, won 11 matches--the most by a Marauder since 2005.
