Women's Tennis Clinches PSAC Tournament Bid by Topping ESU

Results

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - For the first time since 2007, the Millersville women's tennis team is headed for the postseason. The Marauders clinched the No. 3 seed from the PSAC Eastern Division in the upcoming PSAC Tournament by defeating East Strodusburg 5-1 on Tuesday.

Millersville (6-10, 4-2 PSAC East) entered Tuesday's match needing a victory to clinch. A loss would have put the Marauders and in a three-way tie with West Chester and East Stroudsburg and out of the playoffs. The Marauders will face the winner of the Kutztown/Bloomsburg match in the quarterfinals.

Tuesday's match was a rain-shortened affair in which only three of the singles matches were complete, but it was more than enough for the Marauders, who took all three singles matches. Melissa Plowman, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, topped Amanda Kaufman 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles spot. WIth the win, she became the first Marauder since Samantha Souders in 2006-07 to win 10 matches in a season.

Samantha Prager followed in the No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Allison Bean, and Kelsey Waite scored a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No.3  spot.

Plowman and Prager boosted its No. 1 doubles record to 11-5 with an easy 8-1 victory. Waite and Elizabeth Wagner teamed in the No. 2 spot for an 8-1 win. The Plowman/Prager tandem now holds an 11-5 record.

Millersville has three tune-up matches before the PSAC Tournament begins. The Marauders host Edinboro and Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday.
